$20 Billion in CARES Act New Phase 3 COVID-19 Provider Relief Funding Announced 

New Provider Eligibility. Apply by November 6.

Providers will have from October 5, 2020 through November 6, 2020 to apply for Phase 3 General Distribution funding. Read the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) ​press release​. Maryland Medicaid providers are encouraged to apply by the deadline even if  are uncertain of eligibility.

New Provider Eligibility:  HHS is making a large number of providers eligible for Phase 3 General Distribution funding, including:

  • Providers who previously received, rejected or accepted a General Distribution Provider Relief Fund payment. Providers that have already received payments of approximately 2% of annual revenue from patient care may submit more information to become eligible for an additional payment.
  • Behavioral Health providers, including those that previously received funding and new providers.
  • Healthcare providers that began practicing January 1, 2020 through March 31, 2020. This includes Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, dentists, assisted living facilities and behavioral health providers.

​Public Health Emergency Renewed Effective October 23, 2020

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services renews for a third time the public health emergency as a result of the continued consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.  For more information see Renewal of Determination That a Public Health Emergency Exists​​ published October 2, 2020. COVID-19 Federal Provider Relief Payments Available​​

On June 9, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced the distribution of $15 billion in additional relief funds to eligible Medicaid and CHIP providers. Funds will be available to providers who have not received a payment from the Provider Relief Fund General Allocation under the CARES Act

HHS is overseeing all provider applications and fund distributions. Providers must apply using the HHS Provider Relief Fund Portal.  More information about eligibility and the application process is available at https://www.hhs.gov/coronavirus/cares-act-provider-relief-fund/general-information/index.html.

New ICD-10-CM Code for COVID-19​
The Maryland Department (MDH) will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance for the new ICD-10-CM​ code for COVID-19. Pay attention to the beginning, effective and end dates.​
When billing the Diagnosis Code to MDH, use CAPITAL alpha characters, and do not include a decimal point.​
